Well, on my next vacation I'm going to Brazil. Yeah, it's going to be great! I'm going to visit all the beaches in Rio during the day and dance samba all night long. Just kidding. Of course, I'll also visit museums and art galleries. They have really good collections. I'd like to visit the Amazon jungle, but It's too far away and I don't have enough money.

I'm going there because I really love Brazilian culture. I've listened to Bossa Nova since I was a child. Both my parents lived in Sao Paulo when they were young and they brought a lot of CDs and books from their adoptive country, so I grew up listening to and speaking Portuguese as well as Spanish. And this will be my first trip there. I'm so excited.

I'm taking the plane on December 26th just after Christmas I'm going to spend New Year's Eve there with my girlfriend. I would have gone with my buddies, but she's paying for the tickets.  It's a Christmas present. Oh, I love my girlfriend so much!! We're going to visit some beaches, like Copacabana and Ipanema, take lots of pictures and probably eat in romantic places. We´ll also visit the Sugarloaf, of course. The only downside is that my girlfriend doesn't like to dance samba.

I don't think I'll end up working there, though I might take a Portuguese course for a few days if it's available. I also plan on visiting a few universities in order to get to know the academic courses they're offering next year. I'm really interested in following a Master's in Latin American Studies in the near future. Well, that's all for now. Wish me luck!

post 6

A TV show I am going to talk about first is Candy.

I started watching it as a child from about 8 years old. I remember both my sisters loved it so I just sat with them and it was all good. It is about this blond girl with very big (not surprising now!) green eyes. I remember it was a very dramatic Japanese Anime. “Candy” was an orphan girl who was adopted and treated badly. Moreover she falls in love with this amazingly handsome character “Anthony” (I fell in love, too!) and he dies!! Yes, he dies!! I suffered so much.  Later she moves to London and meets “Terri” who is the opposite of Anthony (the latter is rebellious). The thing is this love is not meant to be and they keep splitting because he wants to become an actor.
I think it was on every evening for around half an hour.
I suppose I enjoyed it because it was full of adventures and things seemed pretty exciting, but mostly because I would sit there with my sisters and we would drink our milk and eat toast on those evenings while watching the show. I couldn’t wait for the next day to come. Just to watch it again! I know it is very "ñoño" to write about this but I couldn't think of anything apart from "erase una vez el hombre" which seemed a bit serious for children...
What about you?

Write about a TV programme you enjoyed watching when you were a child:
Say:
What it was called,

What it was about,
When it was on,
Why you enjoyed it.
Mention anything else you think is important. Write at least 200 words.
Leave a comment on 4 your classmates' blogs.

I'd love to have a permanent job teaching English at a major university. I'd like to have some kind of creative position where I could design new materials for teachers to use in their classrooms. I'm comfortable working in an office, although I love to take my students on field trips around the city as a great learning opportunity. I´d like to travel to other countries and learn from different cultures as I help them learn English. I'm thinking of getting a Master's in English Language next year so I can be better prepared to teach English and do some important research in English Education or Literature...

Well, in my case, I like to write poetry. Currently I'm working on a book called "The burning Republic". Most of the poems are of a political nature because they talk about deep traumas of Chilean history and their impact on current morals and existential points of view that the poems envision as one of the prisms through which recent history can be understood. I don't belong to a workshop, although I've been to some in the past. I'm part of a literary and artistic group called Grupo Casa Azul based in Valparaíso whose main commitment is to uphold aesthetic values and a high level of criticism regarding arts, society and politics. We always help each other by reading and listening to everybody's texts and we criticize and make suggestions on how to improve. We also read a lot and have long discussions on what is happening in the country and abroad. Our approach is multidisciplinary and we try to establish connections and relations between the arts, literature, music, philosophy and other disciplines. Regarding technique, it's varied ranging from long free verse to short, very synthetic phrases similar to some English poetry. I think there is a constant flow between the two languages and their poetic history going on in my head and I think that makes me write better.
I really like to write because I can express lots of the things that go around my head. I don't do it for the money or the attention. I just let the words come out of my brain and through my hands. After a while I go back and make corrections to the text.
Well, I hope you learned more about me!! Bye

Post 3 Themed post

As discuss in class, please choose one of the following topics to write on your blog.
Plans after University
Demonstrations Political analysis of social issues (2016)
Favourite food

Please include an introduction to it
Develop your ideas
Write a mini conclusion

Write a minimum of 180 words and 4 comments.

I will choose the second topic because I think politics is present in all our decisions and in every day life.
I believe the political class in Chile is going through a very deep crisis that is cross sectional if you like. Furthermore, the actions of right and left wing to try and put the blame on each other are, in my opinion, frankly pathetic.  I don't think people have much faith. This is the topic I will address.
In a capitalist system in which peole are motivated to think that material things will buy happiness, in which people are invited to care about very superficial things like cars, clothes, appearance, etc. there was a milestone that opened the eyes of many Chileans. The student movement in 2011 made people see that things were not alright, that problems were more than tomorrow's education. Topics like health, housing, pensions were now in the mind  of a lot of adults who hadn't really thought that much. Made them see we have governments that defend private interest over the populations'.
These people together with the young people are very tired. Politicians try to sell a picture of punishment for corruption, bad conduct when they don't really do anything. What they really do is to try to criminalize the social protest. And to look for mechanisms so we are more and more controlled all the time. Which reminds me of 1984 by George Orwell.
My conclusion is that the contempt people feel towards politicians and the political class in general, is growing every day. There is more and more frustration and anger. I feel it myself.  This is like a pressure cooker that at some point will explode.

Sample post: The best holidays ever

My very best vacation was last year. I traveled to Mexico with my girlfriend and toured much of the country. It was so amazing, that we decided to stay there for a month! We visited the Mayan pyramids in Yucatán where we learned about this fascinating civilization. We saw many paintings and sculptures, as well as architecture. After an exhausting week, we flew to Cancún for a lovely weekend under the sun. We did some surfing and kayaking, I visited some uninhabited islands while my girlfriend took long sunbaths and read a few novels. After that, we traveled to Mexico City and visited all the museums and the huge UNAM. We saw a lot of mural paintings by Rivera and visited Frida Kahlo's Casa Azul. It was incredible to see so much art and literature in one city. We saw so much culture and learned a lot about how Mexicans live daily. It was by far the most adventurous vacation I've ever had and we hope to return with more friends very soon.

Hi everybody! Today I'm going to tell you about a country I've always wanted to visit, Peru.

It's a lovely country full of interesting things to see and know. I really like the culture there. There are lots of beautiful cities and places to visit. I hear the people are extremely friendly and generous, not like here. Many excellent writers and artists are from Peru, creators such as César Vallejo and José María Arguedas, intellectuals like Mariátegui and Cornejo Polar make me admire this country very much.

If I go there some day, the first thing I will do is to eat a lot of their delicious food; I think it is fantastic! Second, I will travel around the country to meet people and know places. I would like to visit famous cities like Cuzco and historic site such as Machu Picchu. There's a lot to know. I'd love to stay in real people's homes and get to know how they live. I prefer that to staying in some expensive hotel which is just like any other hotel in the world.

If I have the opportunity, I'd like to work there for a year, maybe teaching English or Spanish at a school or college. This would give me the chance to get to know more of their culture.

Well, I hope that some day I can go to Peru and make my dream true.

Hello friends! I came to talk about my blog experience. I really enjoyed writting here. I learnt and practiced my english. I don’t like English so much, but I’m trying.

I decided that learning English is one of my biggest challenges throughouy all this time in this class, since I've never really tried to learned. I've started writing songs in english in a notebook and try to read the lyrics to songs to improve my pronunciation. I don't have a perfect pronunciation now, but at least now I can try to pronounce something and don't want to start crying everytime I don't know how to say something.

Without any doubt the blog has helped me, I decided to do the posts by myself, without the help of an online translator. And actually I did it!, its not perfect but I don't have to correct every time a write.

That's why some entries might not be that understandable but I certainly did my best for the basic level I have. I think that listening, writing and repeating is the answer to eventually getting used to English and understandign what I read or hear.

It is very clear for me that I still have so much to learn! But at least now I have the will to overcome the shock that English causes me.

For future experiences with the other courses, some things I would like to say about this class is that I would prefer to write more about some themes I'm interested in. I understand that you put the same theme for everyone as to evaluate all students with the same difficulty but maybe if we could write more about things we care about that will motivate us more.

I hope I never stop learning!

Well, if I had the money to travel, I'd definitely go to Thailand. It's a beautiful country with lots of incredible places to visit. I'd like to go there in the summer of 2017 after I graduate. I would probably take my girlfriend if she's still around. I would like to go there to see the culture and meet different kinds of people. I'd love to visit museums and art galleries. I just love Asian art! Furthermore I would go to the beach and relax a little, take a boat rides to the different islands for which Thailand is famous for. I would go sightseeing and visit the temples in Ayuthaya. It really has awesome constructions. In addition, if I had the time, I will travel to Bangkok and visit all the cool places you see in Thai films. Id' also try out a lot of nice restaurants and street food. I'd like that very much because I'm crazy about Thai food. It's very hot and spicy.  You should go there too some time!

Well, I often visit ManyBooks.net because I enjoy reading so much. It's necessary for my job as a teacher since I'm always looking for new books to give to my students. These books are free to download and you can read many famous authors from the past. There are books in English, Spanish and other languages. It's a simple website and easy to navigate. You can search books by author, title or genre. There is a Books of the Week section, a Popular Download section and a Recommended section that's very good. The best part is that you can download books in different formats for android, kindle or pc. I visit the site about three times a week, sometimes even four, and I can also connect using my smartphone. I always have good books to read. The link to the site is www.manybooks.net. I hope you find great stuff there!! Bye!

As a writer I really admire Julio Cortázar. He was an Argentinean author born in Belgium in 1914, but he moved to Buenos Aires when he was four years old. He grew up in a big house where he read a lot, because he was frequently sick and had to stay in bed. He studied pedagogy. He wrote many short story collections and novels. He's famous for introducing the fantastic in his fictional world, though it's a very modern concept, because there aren't any ghosts or monsters in his work. Strange things happen to characters that they can't explain. He wrote novels such as Rayuela, Los premios and Libro de Manuel. His short story collections include Historias de cronopios y famas, Bestiario and Las armas secretas. I like his style because it's very fast and intricate. His stories always speak about the human condition, about trying to find other hidden aspects of life that too often we forget: creativity, risk and imagination. That's why admire Julio Cortázar.

favorite website

I love the internet.  I love the fact that I can learn about anything I am interested in or just ask about particular things. I spend some time on the internet every day. I use google a lot, I use gmail, youtube and facebook sometimes, etc.

I am interested in politics even though I despise most politicians. Politics is present everywhere and in all areas, and I suppose I became interested the day I realized how education was affected by political decisions. How educational research to a large extent was determined by the administration at the time.

A few years back, I was reading about genetically modified food and found a website by chance. ( www. democraciadirecta.cl) I liked it immediately because it showed news about communities and ordinary people, and about decisions taken and affecting a lot of citizens. I like to know about the people in general and not just about those around me. I like to read articles about issues that do not appear in mass media.  I visit this website a couple of times a month and look at interesting articles. Another website I like is www. ciperchile.cl. This website shows a lot of serious journalistic research that would not normally appear on TV. A friend of mine told me about this site one time and since then, I visit it every three weeks more or less.

Write about a website you like. Why you like it. How you discovered it and how often you visit it.

Write a minimum of 160 words. Post 2 comments on 2 different classmates' blogs
